Charles Gondell, M.A., M.F.T.

Charles was educated at California State University at Los Angeles, Pepperdine University, California Graduate Institute and The Fielding Institute. During those years, he was fortunate to have received training and supervision from Master psychoanalysts and psychotherapists in Los Angeles. These experiences generated an excitement and enthusiasm for clinical psychotherapy. Now, many years later, this energy and interest carries over to the present day and allows and motivates him to keep abreast of recent advances in such areas as Neuroscience and more recently Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy.

Charles has been practicing psychotherapy for over 25 years. His emphasis is in-depth contemporary psychotherapy, informed by psychoanalysis and neuroscience. His goal is to help his patients increase their capacity to live life in a larger and more fulfilling way. "I believe that a fulfilling life entails an interweaving of all the realms of one's internal experience: the logical, the feelings and sensations, one's values and beliefs, intuitions and spirituality. In a safe, private environment, real healing can occur." His specialties include depression, anxiety, couples therapy and other areas which are listed on the home page of this website.

His professional experience has included Private Group Practice, Community Mental Health agencies, Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement programs and In-patient Psychiatric Hospitals.

As part of a dedicated team of mental health professionals, he conceptualized, designed and implemented one of the largest lay-analyst training programs in Southern California---training and supervising hundreds of student-therapists who provided treatment to thousands of residents in the San Fernando Valley. Throughout his professional career, Charles has continued to train and supervise therapists.

Charles was born in New York and was involved in the performing arts for many years. He enjoys hiking and boating, and lives with his wife, Judith also a psychotherapist, at the beach, just outside of Los Angeles.
